Most important, these techniques work on the streets!"
- Lt. R.L. Tidwell, Memphis PD and former Defensive Tactics Instructor
"On a personal level, I have discovered a new sense of self-awareness that enables me to perform my duties as a law enforcement officer in a safer and more effective manner. The confidence I feel in high-risk situations certainly stems from the techniques and encouragement I received from your training. When it comes to 'war on the streets,' half the battle is won when the police officer is confident in mind, body, and spirit. The Chin Na methods take officers to a new level of proficiency that enhances overall street performance."
- Officer Deborah Ham, Memphis PD and former Defensive Tactics Instructor

A Defensive Tactics - Law Enforcement class presented by Progressive Tactics of Seattle (established in 1994) will be formed when demand is sufficient. This class, which goes beyond basic Defensive Tactics/Academy training, is exclusively for Law Enforcement Officials. The highly praised curriculum extends a full year and covers all ranges - from long range weapons to ground fighting. The concept, philosophy, and curriculum have been praised, and acknowledged by President Clinton, Vice President Gore, and Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson. Constructed on the strategy of Multi-Range Attack Levels, its curriculum focuses on 5 Ranges of Situation Encounters - assessing and defining each range's capabilities and shortcomings, and discovering the techniques that work best within each one, as well as each practitioner.
THIS IS NOT BASIC MARTIAL ARTS. THIS IS A MARTIAL SCIENCE OF PHYSICAL MOTION AND BODY MECHANICS. THIS MATERIAL CAN BE LEARNED BY THE NEWEST OF CADETS TO THE SEASONED VETERAN, REGARDLESS OF AGE OR BODY SHAPE.
Coursework includes:
TRAINING PRINCIPLES - Honing the body and the mind for combat readiness. Attribute drills to strengthen the entire body (with special focus on hand and finger strength for seizing and grappling); stretching drills to maximize efficiency and prevent personal injury; and balance/coordination/agility work. Will detail body mechanics that maximize power, timing and speed. Will also cover the physical body's reaction during combat applications, and stress management - keeping clear and focused in life-threatening situations.
EXTREMELY LONG RANGE - covers WEAPONS. Examines situations from both ends of guns, sticks/clubs (blunt weapons), and bladed weapons. Learn to become conscience 100% of the time and recognize safe zones, neutralize, counter and disarm against a multitude of armaments, and how to utilize common objects as defensive/offensive weapons. We also examine the mindset of individuals using these weapons - whether no violence is intended (only using the weapon as an object of terror), to the terrorist out to kill anyone in his or her site.
LONG RANGE - covers long range KICKING, application and defending against. Take advantage in this range with the legs - the strongest part of the body - to effectively kick, jam (stop) attacks. Learn to parry, catch/trap and destroy any kick thrown your way, then flow to closer ranges for boxing, trapping, grappling and takedowns. Also develop strategies for implementing dynamic takedowns. Stances (footwork) are discussed and practiced, as they are most important. Without good footwork, there is no balance, power, or speed to apply any type of martial technique.
MEDIUM RANGE - covers BOXING & TRAPPING with focus on Chinese Boxing, Standard Boxing, and double-handed - simultaneous trapping, parrying and striking. With the aid of solid stance and footwork, correct waist motion, and scientific striking structures, you will learn simple, direct techniques to immediately neutralize and counter strike with exceptional power, speed, and efficiency to stop aggressors before they begin.
SHORT RANGE - covers CHIN NA (seize & control) GRAPPLING & TAKEDOWNS. Learn to control your opponent and attack their weaknesses. Become sensitive to your opponent's every move, gaining foresight to their move before it occurs, and protect your weapon from disarmament. Learn devastating locks for fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, waist, knees, ankles and feet. Control the opponent immediately, creating an opening through which you can immobilize them. Also covers pressure point techniques which utilize the structural frailties of muscles, bones and tendons, and cause enough pain to lessen their power to resist. Control opponents many times your size.
CLOSE RANGE - focuses on GROUND FIGHTING & WRESTLING. Learn measures to protect yourself and your weapon when taken to the ground, then assess and flow into controlling maneuvers that utilize every part of your body's arsenal. Focus on the primary goal, "Where do I go from here to get to a controlling position?" Develop quick counters to seemingly "inescapable" locks, holds, chokes and gun/weapon threats.
TAKEDOWN & WRESTLING TACTICS - Chinese wrestling/martial arts, which dates back to the 26th century BC - predating most martial arts - structures the core of this training. The takedown can be utilized offensively or when your opponent tries to kick, strike, push or grab you. Standard wrestling techniques (and terms - The Guard, The Mount) are used to prepare for a worse case scenario should an opponent take you down.
CUFFING STRATEGY - will be emphasized throughout all coursework. Learning to flow through every range, even ground fighting, to your cuffing procedure while remaining in complete control, for this where you want the opponent... IN YOUR COMPLETE CONTROL. We can provide you with the tools to gain an advantage in your field.
This course will allow you to experience both the defensive and offensive side of each technique, plus work a wide range of situation reenactments to you satisfaction. You'll find yourself able to quickly assess situations, determine whether they justify the use of deadly force, then diffuse the danger with a COOL, CALM MIND and steady actions.
Classes will begin when there is sufficient interest
